What Is the Fellowship?
The Artlab Editorial Fellowship supports two art writers each year by providing them with the opportunity to produce three pieces of web-based editorial content for publication on Artlab Editorial in 2025.
Fellows will be paired with mentors for regular guidance and will receive $10,000 each to help produce their work. This opportunity is open to art writers from all around the world, at any stage of their careers.
Fellowship Structure:
The fellowship aims to produce a vibrant body of new contemporary art writing and foster connections between writers, readers, and artists globally.
Fellows will write one 700-word article every other month for publication on Artlab Editorial from May through December 2025.
The articles will be developed over the course of eight weeks, with regular one-on-one development sessions with their Fellowship Advisors and monthly touch-bases with Artlab Editorial’s Editor to ensure the timely publication of each piece.

About Discovery Green:
Discovery Green is a 12-acre urban park located in the heart of Downtown Houston, serving as a cultural hub for the city. The park features expansive lawns, a one-acre lake, an interactive fountain, and art installations by renowned artists such as Jean Dubuffet and Doug Hollis. Since its opening in 2008, the park has become one of Houston's most popular public spaces, attracting over 30 million visitors. Its public art program regularly hosts impressive installations, including works by Bruce Munro and Hybycozo.
Art Objectives:
Discovery Green seeks proposals for interactive, temporary art installations that:
Engage visitors both day and night
Foster moments of discovery, joy, and connection for diverse audiences
May include light, sound, digital interactivity, or kinetic components (though these are not required)
Are durable and low-maintenance, able to withstand Houston's typical weather (rain and winds up to 70 mph)
Do not require 24-hour security and are sensitive to the park’s trees and plantings
Eligibility:
Open to individual artists or artist teams with prior experience in outdoor public art installations.
Special consideration will be given to Houston-based Art Lab Fellows, even if they lack prior public art experience.
Artists (or teams) must provide liability and workers’ compensation insurance for the installation period.
