Entropia

Entropia. A multitude of worlds within one another. Pure existence, seperated into different stages,
which all exist on their own. When combined, they create something even bigger, something that
we easily call reality; as if it is the only given fact, which is unquestionable true.
Within my photographic project “Entropia”, I shed light on those different stages, as we navigate
through. On a daily basis and with the help of a microscopic camera, that was able to dive into the
macrocosmos within the microcosmos. Everday objects eventually gain another level of existence
and the commonness of things becomes unknown. Details that are present every day, but seldom
seen or appreciated. This way, everyday objects become the surface of new planets, that we, the
observer are now able to explore.
In Entropia, each piece of art resembles a blend of the outer and inner worlds of things and creates
something unexpected. When those parts become merged as one, in a variety of photographic and
artistic approaches, worlds that can usually exist on their own, create something totally new - a new
reality. At the same time and simply by the fact various parts forced together, chaos creates order,
which creates chaos, always on the edge of falling apart again. The meaning of chaos and order
becomes questionable and fluid.
The square format I choosed for the photographs aids the course of securing this two worlds within
a given frame of stability. One that keeps everything in place, just for a second. Within this chaotic
circumstances, people and other living things seem kind of lost. On the other hand, living and
existing within this new reality gives every individual the opportunity to evolve. Like fleeing from
our own reality, the known emotions are shattered into pieces, that can be merged again into a
whole new and different meaning.

Statement

In the artistic works of Kathrin Kolbow one often finds oneself in the gray areas of human existence
and the strange worlds of the psyche. The photographic focus here lies in the subliminal
conveyance of information and feelings. In this way, far removed from commercial influences, the
photographer creates pictorial worlds whose themes often deal with things for which there are
seldom the right words anyway.
