Marta Domínguez - Una ingeniera que esculpe
Winner Challenge
2023
Marta Domínguez, artistically known as “Una ingeniera que esculpe” (An Engineer Who Carves), is a Spanish self-taught visual artist and software engineer based in Spain. Her creative practice merges her technical background with a deep passion for sculpture and nature.
Working primarily with recycled materials such as newspaper pulp and acrylic paint, she transforms simple elements into bronze-looking sculptures of great expressiveness. Her recurring subject, the cow, becomes a metaphor for humanness and identity in her Cow Alter Ego series, praised for its aesthetic refinement and emotional resonance.
Marta’s human figures and animal forms are emotional rather than academic portraits, created to convey inner feelings through tangible materiality. She continues to develop her personal research from her mountain studio, where engineering logic and artistic intuition converge.
Statement
I was born with the need to use the non-rational language of art. As a child, I was always painting, yet I chose a professional path in engineering. For years I created quietly, until 2015, when I decided to acknowledge that hidden side of myself.
My work remains figurative. I am inspired by what surrounds me—above all, nature. For more than twenty years, I have been making sculptures with recycled paper and just two colors of acrylic paint. I am fascinated by the expressive potential of simplicity and by how discarded materials can hold meaning and emotion.
Why cows? I once read that Manet said he could express many things by painting asparagus. I took that as a challenge and chose cows—ordinary yet profound—to explore the essence of beauty, truth, and emotion through representation rather than abstraction.
Why to Invest in Marta Domínguez
Marta Domínguez represents a new kind of contemporary artist: analytical yet poetic, rooted in sustainability, and capable of turning ordinary materials into enduring symbols. Her sculptures—born from recycled paper but resembling bronze—embody the balance between intellect and emotion, engineering and art.
Collectors value her work for its originality, craftsmanship, and conceptual depth. By reinterpreting the cow and other natural figures as emotional alter egos, she invites reflection on humanness and empathy. Her art fits perfectly within the growing global appreciation for eco-conscious and emotionally charged sculpture.
Investing in Marta Domínguez means supporting an artist whose creations bridge logic and sensibility, bringing timeless beauty to spaces both intimate and public.
