Laura Rota was born in Milan and developed an early interest in art and visual culture. She graduated in Literature from Cairoli Classical High School in Varese and later earned a Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design from IED Milan.
She has worked as a freelance graphic designer and, since 1997, has been a founding partner of Studio Rebelot in Milan, specializing in graphic design and illustration. Over the years, her professional practice has deepened her sensitivity to visual balance, proportion, and colour relationships.
In 2023, she began her career as a professional artist, translating her long-standing research into colour harmony and optical perception into a personal abstract painting practice.
She lives and works in Milan.
Laura Rota develops a visual language rooted in geometry, proportion and chromatic harmony. Her abstract paintings are built upon precise structural systems that generate both order and movement.
Drawing on her background in graphic design and long-standing research into optical perception and colour relationships, she constructs compositions based on carefully calibrated circular forms. While the formal framework remains consistent, each work evolves through variations in tone and colour intensity. Soft transitions and bold contrasts alike serve a single purpose: to guide the viewer’s gaze inward.

Project
Parallel to her professional work as a graphic designer, she developed an in-depth study of optical perception, the harmonious interaction of colour combinations, and the symbolic meaning of colour. Over time, this research transformed intuitive aesthetic sensibilities into a conscious exploration of visual balance.
From this investigation emerged her first series, Rotations of Circles.
The works consist of circles of varying dimensions arranged in structured yet dynamic compositions. At first glance, the paintings may appear purely decorative. Yet beneath the surface lies a centripetal force that captures and concentrates the viewer’s gaze toward the centre of the canvas.
