Minhee Cho, known as Minz, is a South Korean artist born in 1994 and currently based in Vienna, where she is completing her studies in Contextual Painting at the Academy of Fine Arts. After initial training in Communication Visual Design at Kyung-in Women's University in South Korea, she gained professional experience in photography, graphic design, embroidery, and video. Her artistic practice spans illustration, performance, design, and multimedia installation, characterized by a direct, self-ironic style deeply connected to personal identity and the challenges of emotional communication. She has exhibited in Korea, Austria, Germany, Italy, Spain, Turkey, and Australia, taking part in group shows, international fairs, and multidisciplinary projects.
Minhee Cho operates at the boundary between visual languages and emotional communication, moving fluidly between installations, painting, performance, and digital media. Her works, ironic and rich in meaning, address deep themes such as social anxiety, the desire for belonging, and the fragility of communication with lightness. Her transversal and contemporary approach makes her work distinctive and cohesive, able to engage diverse audiences and construct both personal and universal narratives.
Why NNC Gallery Selected Minz:
For her ability to translate the emotional complexity of contemporary life into vivid and immediate imagery. Her artistic research is fresh, accessible, and deeply personal, resonating across generations and international contexts.
Statement
In my work, I address the difficulty of expressing emotions and thoughts. I don’t consider myself particularly empathetic or sensitive, and often, when I speak, I end up hurting myself or others, creating misunderstandings. Art is my way of transforming this complexity into images. The transparent creatures I paint represent the desire to communicate without misinterpretation, to be understood without filters. My approach combines various techniques and tools—painting, installations, animation, 3D printing—to explore identity, irony, and the contradictions of contemporary life.
Art Project: Forever – In the street where white lights dance
In the project "Forever (In the street where white lights dance)," also released as an online album, Minz explores the intersection of visual art and music, memory, and urban melancholy. The project is a love letter to the vitality of cities at night and the fragile yet luminous energy of youthful dreams. With a playful and sincere style, Minz creates an aesthetic universe that oscillates between nostalgia, pop art, and personal reflection.
